Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon! (The Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darō ka or also known as DanMachi) is a Japanese light novel series written by Fujino Ōmori and illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda. This has been adapted into a manga series, anime television series, and video games.

The story is located in Orario, where gods and humans live together. The lower world is where the gods go for power and fame, while the people rely on the gods to protect and bless them. Familias is the name of these parties.

The main character in the story is Bell Cranel, a young adventurer, the only member of the Familia of Hestia goddess. Bell is a gentle and caring boy, though extremely naive. He decides to become a strong adventurer to get girls, but he soon realizes the dungeon is dangerous.

Bell encounters several characters in the dungeon including Aiz Wallenstein, a mighty swordswoman; Ryoka Orimoto, a mysterious elf and Hephaestus, a wise goddess. Bell also learns more about the world of Orario and its gods.

Storyline

Bell Cranel and his goddess Hestia enter the city of Orario. Bell wishes to be a strong adventurer and attract girls, while Hestia is bent on turning her Familia into the most powerful in Orario.

Bell quickly finds out that the dungeon is a dangerous place. Aiz Wallenstein saves him from death by a Minotaur. Aiz is a strong female swordswoman and the head of the Loki Familia. She is also the one that Bell dreams of meeting woman.

Bell goes on exploring the dungeon and meets some other characters. The elf Ryoka Orimoto, a member of Hermes Familia, becomes his best friend. He also encounters the bright goddess Hephaestus, who is an exceptional weapon and armor maker.

However, as Bell becomes more powerful, he is also able to see the larger world of Orario and the gods who live there. He gets to know about the Familias, power struggles between gods and the dangers in the dungeon.

Bell also discovers more about himself. He realizes that he does not just want to become stronger to pick up girls. In addition, he wishes to build more muscles so that he could shield the people he cherishes.
