It has been decided that a musical based on Moyoko Anno's ``Memoirs of a Long-Nosed Gentleman'' will be staged in New York, USA in the fall of 2026.

The Inspiration Behind the New Musical
A project to turn "Memoirs of a Long-Nosed Gentleman" into a Broadway musical started in 2020. After a script reading in the spring of 2023 and a workshop in early 2025, a long-term Off-Broadway performance in New York this fall has been decided. The theater in New York's Chelsea district, where ``Sleep No More'' has been performed for 14 years, has been renovated and reborn as a theater exclusively for ``Memoirs of a Long-Nosed Gentleman.''
The Creative Team
The production and choreography is by Tony Award-winning director and choreographer Rob Ashford, the lyrics and music are by Duncan Sheik, who won a Tony Award for ``Spring Awakening,'' and the screenplay is by up-and-coming playwright Leah Nanako Winkler. Yasuno commented, ``I'm really looking forward to seeing how the world of ``Memoirs of a Long-Nosed Gentleman'' will develop and reach new audiences thanks to all the wonderful creators.''
``Memoirs of a Long-Nosed Gentleman'' is a work set in Maison Close, a brothel where perverted gentlemen gather in Paris in the early 20th century. It was serialized in Feel Young (Shodensha) from 2013 to 2018. The book has been released in two volumes. Received the Excellence Award in the Manga Division of the 23rd Japan Media Arts Festival.
The Musical's Themes and Style
The musical will explore the themes of love, desire, and identity, set against the backdrop of the decadent and corrupt world of the brothel. With its unique blend of music, dance, and drama, the musical is sure to be a hit with audiences in New York and beyond.
