Seizou Watase Exhibition: A Grand Tribute to Original Art at the Osamu Tezuka Museum
Fans of classic manga and beautiful illustrations are in for a real treat. The Watase Seizo's World Exhibition - Encounter with Tezuka's World is all set to be held from March 6th to June 7th. This special event will take place at the famous Osamu Tezuka Memorial Museum located in Takarazuka City, Hyogo. It is quite a big deal for the local community because Hyogo is actually Watase Seizou's hometown, making this homecoming exhibition very emotional and significant.

The exhibition venue has been very carefully planned and divided into four major zones to give visitors a proper look at his long career. If you are someone who enjoys savoring every moment of artistic storytelling, you will find the layout quite engaging. Each zone focus on a different part of his professional journey, showing how he evolved from a manga artist into a world-class illustrator.
Exploring the Four Major Zones of the Exhibition
The curators have organized the art into these distinct areas:
- ZONE 1: Introduction to Watase Seizou – This section features carefully selected works from the "Adventures Around the Calendar" series. It beautifully captures the essence of a long-distance relationship between Kyoto and Tokyo, showing the emotional highs and lows of the couple.
- ZONE 2: The Masterpiece "Heart Cocktail" – This is arguably the most awaited part of the show. Original drawings from his legendary work Heart Cocktail, which ran in Weekly Morning from 1983 to 1989, will be on display. For those interested in savoring every moment of this iconic series, seeing the actual ink on paper is a must.
- ZONE 3: The Manga Artist Seizou Watase – Here, the museum looks back at his various manga projects. You can see works like "New Manga Insect Diary," "Otoko no Uta," "Private Detective Philip," and "Nana." It gives a very good idea of his versatility as a storyteller.
- ZONE 4: The Illustrator Seizou Watase – This final zone explores his career in commercial illustration. It includes art from "Season Pia," "We were young then," and his very popular "Watase Seizou Original Calendar" series.
Special Events: Autograph Sessions and Print Exhibits
Apart from just looking at the paintings, there are some extra things for the fans. A special autograph session with the artist himself is scheduled for April 11th. This will happen at the Takarazuka City Cultural Arts Center, which is just across the road from the museum. Also, a dedicated print exhibition will be running from April 8th to 19th, giving people more chances to see his vibrant use of color and unique style. If you are in the area, you should definitely not miss this chance to see such high-quality original art in person.
