Saga of Tanya the Evil Season 2: The Major Return in July
There is finally some very big news for all the fans who have been waiting for ages. The second season of the TV anime Saga of Tanya the Evil (Tanya Senki) is officially set to begin broadcasting in July. It has been a long time since the movie came out, so this announcement has really made everyone quite happy. Along with the release date, a brand-new key visual and the first main promotional video (PV) have also been released to give us a glimpse of what is coming next.
In this new season, we are going to see some fresh faces joining the cast. The legendary Tomokazu Sugita will be playing a new character named Mikel, while Yoko Hikasa is set to voice the role of Lilya. The new key visual is looking very intense and it includes a catchphrase that says, "It's a victory too far to hope for." It shows Tanya Degurechaff leading her Salamander Combat Team. We can also see Visha, Weiss, and Granz, who are basically the core members and have been fighting alongside Tanya since the old 203rd Air Magic Battalion days. The artwork really captures that gritty atmosphere why Saga of Tanya the Evil is a dark fantasy masterpiece for so many viewers.
The main PV is also packed with action. Besides the dynamic aerial combat scenes featuring Tanya, we get to see the commanders of the Imperial Army General Staff making their moves. There are also scenes showing the multinational volunteer force putting up a fierce resistance against the Empire. It looks like the scale of the war is only going to get bigger from here.

Introducing the New Characters: Mikel and Lilya
Let's talk a bit about the new characters introduced. Mikel, who is voiced by Sugita, is a magician serving in the Federation Army. In the Federation, wizards were actually being persecuted, but because of the war with the Empire, the government realized they actually need them. So, Mikel and others were brought back to active duty from Lageli and sent to join the multinational volunteer army.
Then we have Lilya, played by Hikasa. She is a junior political commissar and also works as a lieutenant in the federal army. Even though she looks quite friendly and has a soft way of talking, she is actually very strict when it comes to following the party's orders. She seems like someone you really don't want to mess with on the battlefield.
Rebroadcast and Series Background
If you have forgotten some details from the first season, don't worry. Before the second season starts in July, the first season will be rebroadcast on TOKYO MX and BS11 starting from April 8th. This is a perfect chance to catch up and remember why Saga of Tanya the Evil is a dark fantasy masterpiece before the new episodes drop.

It follows a ruthless Japanese office worker who gets reincarnated as a little girl named Tanya in a world that looks like alternate-history Europe during a world war. The original story is written by Carlo Zen, and the anime first aired in 2017. Aoi Yuki does an amazing job playing Tanya, bringing out that mix of cute appearance and terrifying personality.
