Volume 1 of JK Modeler's Guide Hits the Shelves Today
There is some really exciting news for manga fans and hobbyists. The first volume of Tamiki Wakagi and Doug Kurusu's collaborative work, JK Modeler's Guide, has been officially released by KADOKAWA today, March 10th. This series has been gaining quite a bit of attention for its unique blend of school life and the very technical world of plastic model building.

Meet Yakumo: A Protagonist Who Lives for Her Hobby
The story follows Yakumo, who is a bit of an apathetic high school girl. For her, daily life is just a drag. She finds her regular school classes quite boring and doesn't really care much for her friendships either. However, she has one deep obsession that keeps her going: plastic models. When Yakumo is working on a kit, she is completely in the zone. You will see her getting really engrossed in the tiny details that only a true "Plamo" fan would understand.
In this first volume of JK Modeler's Guide, the narrative really captures the struggle of model making. Yakumo is often shown thinking about how difficult it is to clean up those annoying gate marks or how much effort it takes to remove seams by sanding them down properly. It is this level of "super authentic" detail that makes the manga stand out from your typical slice-of-life stories.
Authentic Model Kits Featured in the Story
What makes the manga even more interesting is the inclusion of actual, real-life plastic model products. The authors have clearly done their homework here. Several famous kits from well-known manufacturers appear throughout the work, giving it a very realistic feel for collectors. Some of the notable models mentioned include:
- \[Tamiya\] 1/35 Finnish assault gun BT-42
- \[Takara Tomy\] Zoids Gilraptor \[Deinonychus species\]
- \[Hasegawa\] Japanese Navy Destroyer Shimakaze "Final Hour"
- \[Kaiyodo\] ARTPLA Yuru Camp △ Capsule Edition
- \[Omoroid\] Pi Bot
- \[Volks\] IMS 1/100 The Night of Gold
Bonus Content and Exclusive Illustrations
Apart from the regular chapters, KADOKAWA has included some extra goodies in this volume. Readers will find several newly drawn pages that weren't in the original serialization. On top of that, there is a brand-new column by Doug Kurusu, which provides even more insight into the world of modeling. It is definitely a must-buy for anyone who loves high school girl stories mixed with authentic hobbyist culture.
