The Unconventional World of 'Iron Pot Jean!'
From July 5, 2026, Shinji Saijo's cooking manga 'Iron Pot Jean!' will be made into an anime for the first time on the TV Tokyo network. Serialized in Weekly Shonen Champion from 1995 to 2000, this series has sold over 10 million copies but has never been adapted into an anime due to its extreme content.
30 Years After Serialization: The Seal is Broken
The main character, Akiyama Sho (Jean), defies the typical image of a cooking manga hero. He has an eerie laugh and an arrogant personality, willing to do whatever it takes to win, including using questionable ingredients and tactics.
Realism and Expert Supervision
Despite his corrupt personality, Jean's cooking techniques are genuine and convincing, thanks to the supervision of culinary experts like Keiko Oyama in the original work and Takako Sato and Naoya Higuchi for the anime.
A Clash of 'Isms' in the All Japan Chinese Chef Championship
The series culminates in a battle of culinary philosophies at the All Japan Chinese Chef Championship, where Jean faces off against Kiriko Gobancho and other chefs, each with their unique 'isms'.
Promotion and Unique Collaborations
In preparation for the anime, a commemorative special program 'Ryuji of the Iron Pot!' will air, featuring cooking expert Ryuji, and collaborations with restaurants like 'Kome to Circus' will offer special menus inspired by the series.
