The Great Debut: Bubbles and Edel Glanz in "Yakusha no Hitorigoto"

Wait, what? As part of a very special April Fool's Day project for the hit TV anime series Yakuya no Hitorigoto, two new idol groups have just been announced! The girl group Bubbles and the boy group Edel Glanz are set to debut simultaneously, and fans are honestly losing their minds over this. A concept movie has already been released, giving us a first look at the artist visuals and the voices of Bubbles' Maomao, Edel Glanz's Jinshi, and several others. It’s quite a departure from the usual historical setting we are used to, but that is exactly what makes the apothecary diaries: why this mystery masterpiece is a must-watch for anime fans so entertaining—even their jokes are top-tier!

The visuals for these groups are super stylish and actually show the characters from Horigoto of the Pharmacy in a whole new light. Who would have thought Maomao could pull off the "girl crush" aesthetic so perfectly? It is quite fun to see the production team putting so much effort into a project that is basically a huge "gotcha" for the fans. But then again, this series always goes above and beyond with its creative ideas.

Introducing the Girl Crush Group: Bubbles

The first group, Bubbles, is being marketed as a powerful "girl crush group." The trio consists of three very distinct members, each bringing something unique to the table:

  • Maomao: She is the leader and, believe it or not, the rapper of the group\! Seeing the sarcastic apothecary drop bars is something nobody expected.
  • Shisui (Kosui): Taking on the role of the visual and main dancer, her grace and presence are truly captivating.
  • Xiaoran: The group's main vocalist, whose voice adds a lot of depth to their sound.

Their official catchphrase is "Pop Your Heart!", and honestly, it’s already stuck in my head. It’s a bit of a shocker to see them in these modern outfits, but it works so well. It just proves why the apothecary diaries: why this mystery masterpiece is a must-watch for anime fans has such a dedicated following; the character designs are simply that versatile.

The Royal Boy Group: Edel Glanz

On the other side of the stage, we have Edel Glanz. They are debuting under the fictional "Lee Entertainment" with a "royal boy group" concept, which fits Jinshi way too perfectly. The group is made up of three members:

  • Jinshi: The leader and visual director. Honestly, he was already playing this role in the main story, so it feels very natural.
  • Basen (Ma Sen): He serves as the main dancer, bringing a lot of energy and sharp moves to the group's performances.
  • Li Bai: The main vocalist of the group, rounding out the talent with his strong singing abilities.

Their catchphrase is "Give you the radiance of heaven," and they really live up to it. While they keep that royal, sophisticated atmosphere, their performances are supposedly overwhelming and full of charisma. It is quite funny to imagine the straight-laced characters from the palace training as idols for Lee Entertainment.

Visuals, Manager Gaoshun, and More

The shared visual for the project features all six artists, including Maomao and Jinshi, wearing costumes that are completely different from anything we’ve seen in the main story of Yakusha no Horigoto. Even Gaoshun makes an appearance! He isn't in a group, though; instead, he is dressed as a very talented and reliable manager, which honestly makes perfect sense given his personality. You can even spot each of their signatures in the artwork, which is a nice little detail for the hardcore fans to check out.
