Usamaru Furuya's new series ``Yumejiehon'' started in the May issue of Big Comic Original Special Issue (Shogakukan), which was released today, April 11th.
``Yumejiehon'' is set in a time when a variety of Japanese and Western cultures intermingled, and a culture later known as Taisho Romance blossomed. It depicts the life of Yumeji Takehisa, a painter who was at the center of this. We also explore the behind-the-scenes aspects of Yumeji's spectacular success, which is still loved by many people, including his complicated relationship with his ex-wife Tamaki. In addition to the young Seiji Togo, who becomes deeply involved with Yumeji and Tamaki, cultural figures of the time also appear, such as painter Takeji Fujishima and writers Hogetsu Shimamura and Junichiro Tanizaki.
In the same issue, the new series ``Tsuribaka Masterpiece Theater'', an extra edition of ``Tsuribaka Nisshi'' written by Juzo Yamasaki and illustrated by Kenichi Kitami, will also start. This is a spin-off that recreates many masterpieces using characters from ``Tsuribaka Nisshi'', and the first episode is based on ``Momotaro.''
