The Inspiration Behind the New Arc
The original anime 'Mawaru Penguindrum' by director Kunihiko Ikuhara will celebrate its 15th anniversary in 2026. It has been announced that various projects will be launched to commemorate the 15th anniversary of this work, which has been supported by not only anime fans but also many creators for many years.
'Mawaru Penguindrum', an original work directed by Kunihiko Ikuhara that was broadcast on TV in July 2011, features unique characters created by Lily Hoshino, and what exactly is 'Penguindrum'? At the time of its broadcast, it attracted a lot of attention for its mysterious development, worldview using unique visuals such as the Crystal World, and music.
New Illustration and Streaming Plans
A new illustration drawn by character designer Lily Hoshino to commemorate the 15th anniversary has also been released.
Additionally, starting July 17th, it has been decided that the TV anime series will be distributed free of charge for a limited time on YouTube in four parts. On the first day of each release, a premiere screening will be held where viewers can chat with each other in real time while watching the movie.
Furthermore, plans are underway to re-screen the first and second parts of the movie 'RE:cycle of the PENGUINDRUM', details of which will be announced at a later date.
