The journey of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba began with the creative vision of Koyoharu Gotoge, whose manga series graced the pages of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from February 2016 to May 2020, spanning a total of 23 compilation volumes.
The anime adaptation by ufotable made its debut with a captivating 26-episode Season 1, which aired from April to September 2019. This success paved the way for the spectacular sequel movie, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, released in October 2020 and widely regarded as the catalyst for the surge in anime movie popularity.
Transitioning seamlessly from the movie, Season 2, consisting of 18 episodes, aired from October 2021 to February 2022. Subsequently, Season 3 with 11 episodes followed from April to June 2023, leading to Season 4 airing from May to June 2024. The stage was then set for the epic finale as the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime film series presented Infinity Castle – Akaza’s Return, premiering in Japan on July 18, 2025.
The remarkable success of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle – Akaza’s Return is evident with its record-breaking run, amassing over 25 billion yen (approximately 174 million USD) in just the first 31 days, solidifying its position as the third-highest-grossing film of all time in Japan.
