The Cowboy Bebop Conundrum
Adult Swim's plan to recreate its 2001 programming lineup for its 25th anniversary has hit a snag with the absence of Cowboy Bebop, a series that holds a special place in the network's history as the first anime to air on the block.
The network's inability to secure the rights to Cowboy Bebop is due to Netflix's acquisition of the series, which has led to changes in its broadcast schedule. Instead, Robot Chicken will take its place in the lineup.
Adult Swim's Anime Legacy
Adult Swim has a long history of airing anime series, including Fullmetal Alchemist, Blood+, Mobile Suit Gundam, Attack on Titan, Black Lagoon, and Evangelion. The network has also co-financed and produced original anime series such as Ninja Kamui and Shinichiro Watanabe's Lazarus.
The 25th-anniversary lineup will feature classic series such as Home Movies, The Brak Show, Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law, Sealab 2021, and Space Ghost Coast to Coast. The network's commitment to giving creators the freedom to take risks is reflected in its upcoming slate of projects, including Genndy Tartakovsky's Heist Brothers and the forthcoming season of Common Side Effects.
