The Inspiration Behind the New Arc
The long-awaited first film adaptation of Chikawa, Chikawa the Movie: The Secret of Mermaid Island, will be released on July 24, 2026. It has been announced that a tie-up project with this work, 'Chiikawa, Parco, Summer,' will be held at PARCO stores nationwide from July 17th to August 2nd.
In addition to original visuals created by art director Asuka Wakita, there will be a variety of other measures to make the event even more exciting, including special novelties for purchases of 5,500 yen (tax included) or more, giveaways on X (formerly Twitter), and a photo booth.
Event Details
'Chiikawa' is a manga created by X (formerly Twitter) drawn by illustrator Nagano. Since the serialization began in 2020, readers have been captivated by the fun, sad, and slightly hard daily stories told by unique characters such as Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi.
His popularity knows no bounds, and he is loved by all generations and was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Japan Character Awards Grand Prix. The anime, which began broadcasting in 2022, is attracting attention not only from Japan but from all over the world, with the total number of missed broadcasts on YouTube exceeding 400 million times.
The first film adaptation, Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of Mermaid Island, depicts a unique and popular feature-length episode in the series, commonly known as the Siren Edition. The movie will be produced by Cypic, which is known for its high-quality animation, including the overwhelming action scenes in the movie Uma Musume Pretty Derby: Door to a New Era, under the direction of Kei Oikawa. Under Nagano's full supervision, the adventures of Chikawa and his friends are woven together with magnificent music and powerful visuals.
The tie-up project for this work, 'Chiikawa, Parco, Summer,' will be held from July 17th to August 2nd at 15 PARCO stores nationwide and San-A Urasoe West Coast PARCO CITY.
During the period, if you spend 5,500 yen or more including tax on the target day, you will receive an 'original pouch' on a first-come, first-served basis. Furthermore, if this payment is made using Pocket Pal payment or PARCO card, you will also receive an additional 'original sticker.'
Additionally, special booths using original visuals will be set up inside the participating stores during the campaign. You can enjoy taking photos with Chiikawa and the others while holding accessories that appear in the movie 'The Secret of Chiikawa's Mermaid Island.'
