The Story of Two Nanas: Friendship, Love, and Dreams

For those who don't know, the story follows Nana Komatsu and Nana Osaki. They are two young women with the same name and age, yet their personalities and backgrounds are completely contrasting. Their lives entwine in Tokyo, and the series beautifully depicts their friendship, complicated love lives, and the heavy pursuit of their dreams. NANA became a massive hit globally, with a cumulative circulation of over 50 million copies for its manga. It is often cited as a must-read and must-watch masterpiece because of its raw emotional depth.

Interestingly, 2025 is going to mark the 25th anniversary of the serialization. Because of this, various new developments are happening right now. Fans can look forward to new collaboration goods being sold and even the re-screening of the live-action movies in theatres. It feels like the series is getting a second life after so many years.

The Legacy of the TV Anime Production

The TV anime was originally broadcast for four seasons on Nippon Television between 2006 and 2007. The production was handled by the famous studio Madhouse, and it was directed by Morio Asaka. He is the same mastermind behind other hits like Cardcaptor Sakura and Chihayafuru, so you know the quality is top-notch. The voice acting was also superb, with Rumi Park playing the cool Nana Osaki and KAORI taking on the role of the sweet Nana Komatsu.

One of the best things about this anime is the music. For the singing cast, the talented Anna Tsuchiya provided the vocals for Nana’s rock songs, while OLIVIA was the voice behind Leila’s beautiful vocals. This special YouTube release even includes that very famous scene where Sachiko says, "It was on purpose, right?" If you haven't seen it yet, you really should take this opportunity to witness why this iconic punk rock romance is still talked about today.
