Hyakuemu Anime Film: Special Theater Screenings and Blu-ray Bonus Details Revealed
Fans of sports anime have something really exciting to look forward to this April. A limited-time screening event is being organized at various theaters starting from April 10th. During these screenings, viewers will get a special chance to preview the bonus making-of documentary along with the main story, which includes staff audio commentary. All this exclusive content is actually part of the upcoming Blu-ray release for the theatrical animation "Hyakuemu", which is based on the highly acclaimed original manga by Uotoyo. Along with this announcement, the makers have also released new poster visuals, trailers, and some interesting scene photos from the making-of documentary to build up the hype.

Deep Dive into the Production: "To Become Serious" Documentary
For those who love collecting physical media, the Blu-ray and DVD of "Hyakuem." are scheduled to hit the shelves simultaneously on May 27th. One of the biggest highlights of this release is the bonus video titled "Making documentary - To become serious". This is not just a small clip; it is a full-fledged documentary of over 70 minutes. It meticulously follows every stage of production, starting from live-action reference shooting all the way to animation production and complex sound work. Interestingly, the documentary was composed and edited by Ayumu Miyazaki, who was also heavily involved in the main movie's production.
If you attend the theater screenings, you can experience the 106-minute main movie accompanied by live audio commentary from the core production team. This is a great way to learn everything you need to know about 100 meters and how it was brought to life. A total of six key members participated in this commentary session:
- Kenji Iwaizawa (Director)
- Keisuke Kojima (Character Designer)
- Yamaguchi Kei Kankun (Art Director)
- Hiroaki Tsutsumi (Music Director)
- Masaru Okawara (Sound Designer)
- Yusuke Terada (Producer)
Screening Locations and Exclusive Visitor Bonuses
The special screenings are happening across major cities in Japan. Starting April 10th, fans can catch the event at Kino Cinema Shinjuku and Kino Cinema Tachikawa Takashimaya S.C. in Tokyo. Other locations include Kino Cinema Yokohama Minato Mirai in Kanagawa, Fushimi Million Theater in Aichi, Kino Cinema Shinsaibashi in Osaka, Kino Cinema Kobe Kokusai in Hyogo, and Kino Kokusai in Fukuoka. For fans in Hokkaido, the event will be held at Lawson United Cinema Sapporo starting a bit later on April 17th.
As a sweet gesture for the visitors, the theaters are giving away two types of postcards with different designs. These are prepared specifically as a bonus for those who come to watch the making-of documentary and the main story with staff commentary. It is a nice little collectible for any hardcore fan of the series.
Teach-in Sessions and Special Talk Events
Adding more value to the screenings, several "teach-in" sessions have been announced where the staff will interact with the audience. Producer Terada will be personally present on stage at Kino Cinema Shinsaibashi on April 11th and at Kino Cinema Tenjin on April 12th. There is also a very special event planned at Kino Cinema Shinjuku on April 19th titled "Talking about Blu-ray & Records".
In this Shinjuku event, Producer Terada will be joined by Kenny Terada (responsible for Blu-ray production) and Kanako Sato (responsible for record production) to talk about the technical side of things. Furthermore, for the fans in Osaka and Fukuoka, those who purchase the official "Hyakuem." pamphlet or the soundtrack at the theater on the day of the teach-in can participate in a special event hosted by the producer himself. This is definitely one of the best guides to the anime and manga series for fans who want to get closer to the creators.
