Anime Films Featured at Domanaka Festival

The 3rd Domanka Anime Film Festival is all set to happen at Midland Square Cinema in Aichi from May 15th to 21st. It’s a very exciting time for fans in the region who love the classic era of animation. This festival has quickly become a fixed date on the calendar for those who want to see legendary works on the big screen once again.

The Doman Naka Anime Film Festival is basically an event that creates a perfect place for anime fans and people involved in actual anime production to interact with each other. The main focus has always been on screening anime movies released during the 1980s, which many consider the golden age. The first edition was held back in May 2024, followed by a successful second one in May 2025. Now, we are entering the third year, and things are getting even bigger.

Expanded Scope: From the 80s to the 2000s

In this third edition, the organisers have decided to expand the scope quite a bit. While they are still showing plenty of works from the 1980s, they have now included famous works released in the 2000s as well. They are selecting movies to be screened from a wide framework of approximately 30 years, so there is something for every generation of fans. This variety is perhaps everything you need to know about Labyrinth and other classics being celebrated here.

The screening lineup is honestly quite impressive this time around. Some of the major highlights include:

  • Legendary Giant Ideon Contact Arc/Activation Arc: Directed by the legendary Yoshiyuki Tomino.
  • Arion: A masterpiece directed by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko.
  • Tenshi no Tamago 4K Remaster: The hauntingly beautiful work by Mamoru Oshii.
  • Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Appare\! Sengoku Taisen: Directed by Keiichi Hara.
  • Metropolis: The visually stunning film by Rintaro.
  • Grave of the Fireflies: The emotional classic by Isao Takahata.
  • Mobile Suit Gundam F91 Complete Edition: Another heavy hitter from Yoshiyuki Tomino.

Special Events and Artistic Contributions

Apart from the screenings, the festival is also hosting a special event titled 80's Anime Talk Session Ep.1. This is a great chance for fans to hear from industry veterans. The guest list includes Ryusuke Hikawa, Michihiko Suwa, Masuro Ueda, Hirotoshi Sano, and Run Sasaki, with Makoto Ishii serving as the host for the evening. It’s rare to get so many experts in one room talking about the history of the medium.

Even the official poster for the festival has a lot of history behind it. The original illustration was drawn by Hirotoshi Sano, an animator who famously worked on Venus Senki. Seeing such high-quality art used for the event really shows how much care is being put into the festival. For those looking for a new experience, everything you need to know about Labyrinth might be found through these historical discussions. More details about the film festival and ticket schedules will be announced at a later date, so fans should keep an eye out for updates.
