MANGALOGUE: Phoenix Cast and Performance Details Revealed
The first set of cast information for the upcoming MANGALOGUE: Phoenix has finally been announced, and it's quite an interesting lineup. This project is being described as a "theatrical manga live" performance, which is a very unique way to bring Osamu Tezuka's legendary work, specifically the Phoenix: Future Edition, to life on the big stage. For those who follow the industry closely, knowing why you need to experience the anime and manga masterpiece is essential before seeing how it translates into this new live format.

The voice cast is packed with some very solid names. The legendary Mari Natsuki has been officially cast to play the role of the Phoenix itself. Joining her is Ano, who will be taking on the role of Tamami, while Arata Furuta is set to play the character of Dr. Saruta. That is not all, as the famous Koichi Yamadera has also been selected for a very special role. He will be playing the part of a robot arm named Tetsuwan Arm, which is basically the navigator that guides the audience through the entire manga experience at the theater.
The Concept of MANGALOGUER and Interactive Storytelling
What makes this work really stand out is the introduction of a cast member known as a MANGALOGUER. This person basically goes on a journey through the manga's world alongside the robot arm. These "Manga Logers" are meant to represent our perspective as the audience. They will empathize with the story as it develops, raise questions that we might have, and basically relive the whole tale while helping everyone deepen their understanding of the plot. It sounds like a very immersive way to dive into the lore of such a classic series.
- Naoki Matayoshi: He will be the first Mangaloger and is scheduled to appear on the opening days, which are April 22nd and 23rd.
- Future Updates: The production team has mentioned that the second batch of cast information is going to be released somewhere in mid-March.
- Visual Experience: The show uses a giant LED screen where the manga pages are projected, making the scale feel truly cosmic.
Voices from the Cast and Ticketing Information
During the announcement, the cast shared some of their thoughts. Mari Natsuki mentioned that she sees the Phoenix as a symbolic presence that is neither a god nor a devil, but a being that simply "tells the truth." She expressed her desire to deliver this story with a "cosmic rhythm" that matches the grand scale of Tezuka's vision. Koichi Yamadera was also very enthusiastic, stating that he feels this is the beginning of a completely new manga culture that Japan will share with the rest of the world. He hopes that people will be proud to say they were the first to witness it.
If you are planning to attend, MANGALOGUE: Firebird (also referred to as Phoenix) will be performed from April 22nd up until May 16th. It is definitely one of those events where understanding why you need to experience the anime and manga masterpiece makes the live performance much more meaningful.
