MANGALOGUE: Phoenix - A Grand Theatrical Manga Experience Unveiled
The world of legendary manga creator Osamu Tezuka is coming to life in a very unique way. It has been officially announced that Yasufumi Terawaki, Mari Hana, Yudai Furukawa, and Kazuma Chiba are all set to appear in a special production titled MANGALOGUE: Phoenix. They will be taking on the roles of "MANGALOGUERS," who are essentially guides that travel through the intricate story alongside the audience. This "theatrical manga live" is specifically based on the Future Edition of Tezuka's iconic work, The Phoenix.
Looking at the cast members who will be playing the Mangalogers, the line-up is quite impressive. In the promotional images, you can see Yasufumi Terawaki and Mari Hanaso in the upper row, while Yudai Furukawa and Kazuma Chiba take the lower row. This project is really looking to push the boundaries of how we consume manga in a physical space. The performance, also referred to as MANGALOGUE: Firebird, is scheduled to run from April 22nd to May 16th at Theater Box 1000 located in MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives.
Technology Meets Tradition: The Robot Arm Mangaloger
What makes this show truly stand out is the use of high-end technology. The original manga panels will be projected onto a massive LED screen, allowing fans to dive deep into the artwork. Navigating the stage will be a robot arm called Mangaloger, which works with the live cast to narrate the journey. Since the Mangalogers will be appearing on a rotating basis, every performance might feel a bit different. Terawaki-san even shared a personal bit, mentioned how he actually grew up with Osamu Tezuka's works, which makes this role even more special for him. For many fans, Phoenix is a series that defines the philosophical depth of the medium.
Star-Studded Voice Cast and New Promotional Videos
Apart from the live performers, a new spot video has revealed some big names for the character voices. The lineup includes:
