Analysis: The Redemption of the Scum Prince Manga Release
Fans of the reincarnation and otome game genres have something new to look forward to. Today, April 3rd, marks the official release of Volume 1 of Ryoji Hyodo's latest work, titled "The Scum Prince will do it all over again! ~I was beaten to death, but this time I will destroy the plot and survive~". This exciting new series is published by Takeshobo's Bamboo Comics BCf and is actually a comic adaptation of the popular novel written by Mashimesa Emoto. It is quite a long title, but it perfectly sets the stage for a story about second chances and breaking free from a pre-determined fate.

A Villain’s Wake-Up Call: The Story of Christhard
The plot follows the journey of Christhard, a character known as the "scum prince." His life takes a massive turn when he suddenly discovers that his entire world is actually based on an otome game. In this scripted reality, he wasn't the hero but the villain meant to meet a tragic end. He learns that the world has been reset multiple times whenever a "bad ending" occurred. However, despite these resets, the world was always heading towards destruction. To fix this, the creator god steps in and gives Christhard a completely new role as an "intervenor" to save the world from its inevitable collapse.
Once he is freed from his forced role as the Redemption of the Scum Prince, Christhard starts seeing his past actions in a new light. He feels a lot of regret and begins to reflect intensely on the person he used to be. His main goal now is to survive and prevent the world's ruin. To do this, he has to carefully avoid all those dangerous and messy relationships with women that previously led him to the executioner's block. Interestingly, he isn't doing this alone; he strives to save everyone alongside Kai, a brave knight who is actually a woman dressed as a man.
Volume 1 Highlights and Purchase Bonuses
The release of the first volume is already creating some buzz among readers who enjoy a good Redemption of the Scum Prince story arc. If you are planning to pick up a physical copy, there are some nice perks involved. Several retailers are offering special bonuses for fans:
- Shosen Group: Purchases made here come with a newly drawn paper illustration as a special bonus.
- Supporting Stores: Various other participating bookstores are also including exclusive drawn papers for early buyers.
- Electronic Version: If you prefer reading digitally, the version sold at Comic Seymour includes its own set of bonus illustrations.
The transition from a hated villain to a world-saving intervenor is a path filled with challenges, and seeing how Christhard navigates these political and romantic landmines is what makes this series quite catchy. It’s definitely a fresh take on the "villainess" trope, but this time focusing on a prince who was originally quite a piece of work.

For those who have been following Mashimesa Emoto's original web novel, seeing Ryoji Hyodo's artistic interpretation in the manga format is a real treat. The character designs for Christhard and Kai really bring the tension of the otome game world to life. Bonus illustrations are also available for those who want to see more of the artist's work.
