The Prince of a Super Peaceful Country Loves Depressed Developments: New Series Alert
There is some really interesting news for all the manga fans out there. Makoto Majima has finally started a brand new series on Overlap's Comic Gardo. The title is quite a mouthful, but it sounds very unique: ``The main character who loves depressing developments vs. a kind world: My reincarnation destination is too peaceful, so I go on a journey in search of supreme despair.'' This new work is actually a comic adaptation of a popular novel originally written by Ishi Fuseki. If you are tired of the same old stories, this might be exactly what you need to read.

A Goddess's Mistake and a Very Strange Reincarnation
The story starts with a very common trope, but with a hilarious twist. A man ends up dying because of a silly mistake made by a goddess. To make up for her blunder, the goddess decides to reincarnate him into another world as an apology. Now, our protagonist is a bit of a special case. He absolutely loves stories where a depressing development eventually leads to a happy ending. He doesn't just want to read them; he wants to be right there in the middle of all that drama and despair to experience it for himself. He literally asks for a world where things are dark and difficult.
However, the goddess completely fails to understand what he actually wants. Instead of a dark, gritty world, she sends him to the most peaceful place imaginable. He is reborn as the prince of a country called Laia, which is famous for being super peaceful and happy. There are no wars, no villains, and basically no stress at all. For most people, this would be a dream come true, but for our hero, it is nothing short of a nightmare because he is bored to death. It is because of these weird character motivations that seeking supreme despair becomes his only goal in life.
The Journey in Search of Supreme Despair
After living a life that is way too peaceful for his liking, Prince Laia finally reaches his limit. He cannot take the kindness and the safety anymore. He decides that if the depression won't come to him, he will go and find it himself. He sets out on a journey across the world to find some unexplored depression or any kind of tragic event that he can witness or be a part of. It is such a funny subversion of the typical Isekai where the hero wants to save the world; here, the hero is just looking for some good old-fashioned misery to spice up his life.

Why You Should Check Out This New Series
The art style by Makoto Majima is looking very solid, and the expressions of the protagonist when he is frustrated by how "nice" everyone is are just gold. It is really refreshing to see a main character who isn't trying to be the strongest or build a harem, but is just a massive fan of tragic plot armor. If you enjoy dark humor mixed with fantasy elements, then seeking supreme despair in this manga will definitely keep you entertained for a long time.
- Unique Premise: A hero who hates peaceful worlds and loves tragedy.
- Goddess Blunders: The interaction between the incompetent goddess and the frustrated hero is very funny.
- World Building: Exploring the country of Laia and beyond as the prince tries to escape his perfect life.
The series has just kicked off, so it is the perfect time to get into it. We are really looking forward to seeing what kind of "despair" Prince Laia actually manages to find in such a kind world. It is going to be one wild and hilarious ride for sure.
