Akira Sekine Talks Jadugal of the Tent

The TV anime version of the historical manga 'Tentaku no Jardugal', which has won numerous manga awards, is currently being broadcast on the 'IMAnimation' slot of TV Asahi's 24 stations nationwide, as well as on BS Asahi and other stations. Based on the original manga by Tomato Soup (serialized in Akita Shoten's 'Souffle'), the story is set in 13th century Mongolia and tells the story of Sitara, a former slave girl who shakes up the empire.

In this work, we interviewed Akira Sekine, who plays the role of the main character, Sitara. Sitara is portrayed as a pretty girl, but at the mercy of a terrible fate, she uses her knowledge as a weapon to survive. How did Sekine perceive and portray her as she gradually changes during these harsh times? He talked about the shock he had when he read the original work, the atmosphere he felt during the dubbing with his co-stars, and Science SARU's amazing visual expression.

When asked about her first impression of the original work, Akira Sekine mentioned that she was shocked by the harshness of the situation that Sitara and her friends were in. She also talked about how she felt that the character of Sitara was a really difficult role, so she thought, 'I have to be fully prepared to face it.'

Sitara's expressions have changed as a result of various influences. For that reason, rather than intentionally trying to change, I think that, like Sitara, I myself changed because of the inspiration I received from my seniors.

When it comes to expressing sadness, I think that the 'happy times' that I have accumulated up to that point have a huge impact. Because they created such bright days in episodes 1 and 2, the feeling of despair that 'this will be lost' became even stronger within me.

Akira Sekine also talked about the visual expression by Science SARU, saying that it was very impressive and had a somewhat painterly feel to it. The animation really conveys the feeling of dry air, sand smoke, and wind.

Sitara will continue to gain various experiences in the future. Akira Sekine hopes that viewers will enjoy the series from various angles and witness the changes and growth of Sitara herself.
