Go Gunhee’s Forgotten Childhood Resurfaces
Fans finally get a glimpse of the man who would become the legendary mentor of Sung Jin‑woo. The new Solo Leveling: Arise webtoon drops a flashback set roughly seventy years before Jin‑woo’s rise, showing a kid with an uncanny knack for sensing spirits and impending danger. While that gift feels like a blessing, it quickly morphs into a torment as young Gunhee watches tragedies unfold without the power to stop them.
From Precognitive Curse to Corporate Power
Unable to change fate, Gunhee channels his foresight into business, climbing the corporate ladder to become a savvy CEO. Yet his life takes a sharp turn when a rogue Magic Beast bursts from a Gate, forcing him into a desperate rescue that triggers his Hunter awakening. Even with newfound strength, he remains haunted by the lives he couldn’t save, spiraling into a dark slump.
Founding the South Korean Hunter Association
Just when hope seems lost, a former rescue target, Woo Jinchul, appears on the road, reminding Gunhee of his purpose. Determined, Gunhee siphons funds from his company and launches the Korean Hunter Association, aiming to give future hunters the support he never had. This bold move seeds the organization that later becomes a cornerstone of the Solo Leveling universe.
Alternate‑Universe Twist and Multiverse Theory
The prequel diverges sharply from the original manhwa where Gunhee’s S‑Rank stems from being a Ruler’s vessel. Here, that element is absent, highlighting the series’ willingness to explore “what‑if” scenarios. Chugong’s own comment that Solo Leveling functions like a Marvel‑style multiverse gives fans permission to enjoy these variations without demanding strict continuity.
Even the Solo Leveling light novels have flirted with alternate selves, so this version of Gunhee could someday ripple into the main storyline. With the upcoming Solo Leveling: Beyond the System film and the looming Monarchs War Arc, the timing feels perfect for a deeper dive into his legacy.
For those eager to read the chapter, it’s currently free on Netmarble’s official site, complete with an English‑dubbed animation featuring Kent Williams as the voice of Gunhee.
