New Series Debuts in Monthly Comic Beam’s April Issue
The latest April issue of Monthly Comic Beam, published by KADOKAWA, has officially hit the stands today, March 12th. This month's edition is quite special because it marks the beginning of two very interesting new manga series that fans have been waiting for. We are talking about Yuritaro's latest work, Ponkotsu Evil Spirit Yamiko-chan, and Shinoda Mugi's emotional White Powder Flower's Confession. Both these series bring something very fresh to the table, and the magazine is buzzing with all this new energy.

Exploring Ponkotsu Evil Spirit Yamiko-chan
First up is Ponkotsu Evil Spirit Yamiko-chan, which is basically an occult love comedy. The story is about these evil spirits whose only job is to go and scare the living daylights out of humans. But here is the twist – the main character, Anko, who is part of the Evil Spirit Division, is just too cute for her own good. It is very hard to take her seriously! The manga focuses on the funny interactions between her and her boss, Gozu. This series actually started as a one-shot in the July issue last year, and since the response was so good, they decided to make it a full serialization. The author, Yuritaro, is already quite famous for Kaya-chan wa Kowa nai, which even got a TV anime adaptation recently. This is one major reason why Ponkotsu Evil Spirit Yamiko-chan is getting so much attention from the community.
A Deep Dive into White Powder Flower's Confession
Then we have White Powder Flower's Confession, which is a very different kind of vibe. It is a girl's love story that deals with themes of friendship and growing up in a housing complex. The story follows Atsuki, a small elementary school girl who runs away from home because things are not great there. She ends up hiding in a small gap behind a bicycle parking lot, and that is where she meets Tsumi, a very mysterious girl. Atsuki eventually goes to her house and finds herself totally drawn to Natsumi, who is very beautiful and free-spirited. It is quite a heart-touching story about how these girls get closer to each other amidst their personal struggles.
Special One-Shots and Final Chapters
Apart from these new series, the issue is also celebrating Monthly Comic Beam’s 30th anniversary. As part of the special one-shot project, this issue includes works by legendary creators like Sayuri Sasai, Fujiko Dokuta, and Tamakichi Sakura. It is a great way to look back at the magazine's history while enjoying new content. On a sadder note, Souya Bun's manga Tsuneta has officially reached its final episode in this issue, wrapping up its run.
The Launch of Comic Beam:Q
There is also some big news about a new digital space called Comic Beam:Q, which is described as an "alternative comic space." It will be launching within Kadocomi starting this April. They have already announced a stellar lineup for this new platform, which includes:
- Charles Ward's Strange Incident by Tsuyoshi Tanabe
- Hyakuday Coffee by Takashi Takashi
- If I Don't See It, I Can't Stop by Hiuchidana
It seems like KADOKAWA is really pushing the boundaries with these new titles and platforms. For more updates, fans can follow the official X account for Comic Beam:Q at @COMIC_BEAM_Q. There is surely a lot more coming our way in the next few months!
