Live "Chargeman Ken!" Music Festival: A One-of-a-Kind Cinema Concert Experience
The legendary anime series from the 70s is back in the spotlight in a very big way. A unique participatory cinema concert titled "Let's Sing! Chargeman Ken! Music Festival" has been announced, and it is going to be a treat for all the fans out there. This event is not just any regular concert; it is a full-blown interactive experience where a professional orchestra will be performing the music of Chargeman Ken! with total seriousness. The event is scheduled to take place on June 20th at the Kitatopia Sakura Hall in Tokyo, and it’s promising to be quite a spectacle.

For those who don't know, Chargeman Ken! was first broadcasted way back in 1974. Over the decades, it has developed a massive cult classic following, especially through various video distribution services and social media. At this upcoming music festival, the professional group Charkestra will be providing live music while specific episodes from the anime are screened on a massive screen. What makes it really special is that the audience is actually encouraged to participate. You can shout out famous lines like "Dr. Bolga, please forgive me!" exactly when the scene happens. It’s the kind of fun you only get in these types of fan gatherings.
Event Highlights and Special Guest Appearances
The organisers have really planned a lot to keep the energy high throughout the show. Noboru Sato will be gracing the stage and he will actually be reading the lines for Ken and Hoshi-kun live during the performance. There are even call-and-response projects planned that revolve around the show’s famous tongue-lashing themes. Also, if you are a fan of sharing things online, there is a dedicated part where you can use your smartphone to take pictures and share them with your friends. It’s quite a modern twist for such an old-school series.
The setlist for the night includes some of the most iconic and bizarre episodes that made people realise why this cult classic is a must watch for anime history fans. The scheduled performances are as follows:
- Episode 4: "Mysterious Beautiful Boy"
- Episode 16: "Murder Record Horror Melody"
- Episode 23: "Horror\! Psychiatric Hospital"
- Episode 35: "Dynamite in Your Head"
A Last-Minute Challenge for the Fans
Producer Koichi Nishi has shared a rather emotional message regarding the concert. He mentioned that due to various tricky circumstances, this event is actually a "last-minute challenge." He even hinted that it might be the very last time they are able to host an event on such a massive scale for the franchise. This makes it even more important for the fans to turn up and show their support. Tickets are currently on sale through teket. Interestingly, apart from general tickets, they are also selling special "Izumiken tickets" for 10-year-olds which cost just 10 yen. It’s a very sweet gesture that fits the spirit of the show perfectly.
The note for the event does mention that the schedule might change a bit depending on the surrounding atmosphere on the day, but the core of the festival remains the same. It is going to be a night of music, madness, and a whole lot of Chargeman Ken! nostalgia that you definitely don't want to miss if you are in Tokyo this June.
