Daisuke Nishijima Designs New Mascot for Yomiuri TV's Morning Show

There is some really interesting news coming from the Japanese broadcasting world. Yomiuri TV is all set to launch its brand new program titled Teppan Asa Live Jutto! starting from March 30th. To give the show a unique identity, the famous artist Daisuke Nishijima has created a very cute and relatable character named Nebobee. If you follow Nishijima's work, you might already know his distinct art style which perfectly balances simplicity with a lot of personality.

What is Teppan Morning Live Jutto! All About?

The new show, Teppan Morning Live Jutto!, is basically a Kansai-based morning information program. It is designed to cover all the latest happenings from the Kansai region as well as important news from across the entire country. The creators wanted something that feels local but also keeps the audience updated on a national level. It's really aimed at being a go-to source for people starting their day in the region. Many fans are already saying that Teppan Asa Live Jutto! is going to be a refreshing addition to the morning slot.

The mascot, Nebobee, has a very sweet backstory. He is actually the younger brother of Shinobee, who is the official mascot for Yomiuri TV. Since Daisuke Nishijima also designed Shinobee, the family connection between the two characters makes perfect sense. The idea was to create a character that would be loved by everyone, not just the adults who watch the news, but also children who might be getting ready for school. It is quite a thoughtful approach to making an information program more family-friendly.

Getting to Know Nebobee and His Quirks

What makes Nebobee really funny and relatable is that he absolutely hates mornings. This is quite ironic for a mascot of a morning show! Because of this, the staff expects him to be "probably asleep or half-asleep" whenever the program actually starts airing. He even carries around his favorite alarm clock, which is shaped like a chicken and is named Kokemaru. Just like the main mascot, Kokemaru was also designed by Nishijima, ensuring a consistent look for the whole show's branding.

The designers have added several other interesting details to Nebobee’s personality:

  • Residence: He is said to live somewhere near the iconic Osaka Castle, which firmly roots him in the Kansai area.
  • Personality: He is extremely curious and genuinely loves listening to what other people have to say.
  • Appetite: He is a bit of a glutton, and his absolute favorite food is pancakes.
  • Hobbies: Currently, he is working very hard on mastering the Kendama, which is a traditional Japanese skill toy.

It is quite clear that Yomiuri TV is putting a lot of effort into the character building for this program. By giving Nebobee such a detailed life, they are making him more than just a drawing on a screen. For fans who want to dive deeper into the show's aesthetic, checking out Teppan Asa Live Jutto! and its unique mascot is definitely recommended. We are looking forward to seeing how Nebobee and his chicken clock Kokemaru interact with the hosts when the show finally premieres on March 30th.
