The Original Cast Reunites
Dragon Ball has brought together its original cast from the series' initial arcs in a nostalgic new release from the franchise. The series, which initially focused on a young Goku and his Earth-bound adventures, has evolved over the years into a narrative featuring galactic battles and universe-ending threats.
Now, the latest artwork release from the official website's Toriyama Archives segment has finally brought back the series' original cast. The draft artwork features a young Goku running forward, along with his early companions including Bulma, Yamcha, Krillin, Master Roshi, Puar, and Oolong.
A Blast from the Past
The newly unearthed illustration was originally created by Akira Toriyama as a bonus color poster to celebrate the second anniversary of the Dragon Ball manga over 39 years ago. It debuted as the cover of chapter 110 of the manga, which was released on Feb. 3 in Weekly Shonen Jump 1987 No. 10.
The official website noted that 'this heartwarming illustration brings together the original cast of beloved characters, evoking a sense of nostalgia for long-time fans of the series.' This artwork is also featured in the Daizenshuu 1 guidebook, which is a collection of artwork from the series.
Looking to the Future
While this archival release is a callback to the series' early days and forgotten characters, the overarching story of Dragon Ball continues to move forward. Although the current Dragon Ball Super manga remains on hiatus, the anime adaptation is gearing up for a revival that begins with the upcoming release of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, before shifting into an adaptation of the Galactic Patrol arc.
