Netflix to Premiere "Danderion" Anime in April: Hideaki Sorachi’s Debut Work
There is some really great news for all the Gintama fans out there. Hideaki Sorachi's very first work, the one-shot titled Danderion, is finally being adapted into an animated series by Netflix. This new project is set to be distributed exclusively across the globe starting this April. It is quite a big deal because many people consider this one-shot as the foundation for the humor and heart we saw in Gintama later on. For those who want to know why Dandelion is a must watch, it basically marks the beginning of Sorachi’s unique storytelling style.

Plot and Main Characters: The Japan Angel Federation
The story of Danderion is centered around two main characters, Tetsuo Tanba and Misaki Kurotetsu. Both of them are members of the Japan Angel Federation Transfer Department. Their main job is to track down wandering souls on Earth who are unable to reach Buddhahood or attain peace because of their heavy regrets. Once they find these spirits, they have to help them move on to the afterlife. Even though they are doing "angel work," the two of them are shown with a lot of human-like qualities and a good dose of humor, making the series very relatable.
The casting for the lead roles has also been confirmed:
- Chikahiro Kobayashi will be voicing the role of Tetsuo Tanba.
- Megumi Han will be playing the character of Misaki Kurotetsu.
Production Details and Series Expansion
The upcoming anime is being produced by the studio NAZ. It will consist of 7 episodes in total, which is interesting because the original source material was just a short one-shot. The makers have added several original elements to the story, including backstories for Tamba and Kurotetsu that were never mentioned in the manga. Daisuke Mataga is serving as the animation director, while the series composition is being handled by Yosuke Suzuki. A teaser visual has already been released, showing the two leads riding bicycles, which gives off a very nostalgic vibe.
A Bittersweet Reflection from Hideaki Sorachi
In typical fashion, Hideaki Sorachi shared a very funny and slightly embarrassed comment about the adaptation. He jokingly said that Netflix seems to lack "delicacy" for digging up his debut work, which he usually avoids rereading because it makes him feel awkward. However, the voice cast is very excited. Chikahiro Kobayashi mentioned that the work really makes him laugh and moves his heart at the same time. Even Megumi Han shared a message, saying that while she feels like she might be interfering with the Gintama legacy, she hopes fans appreciate the "Soratism" and "Silver Soul" spirit present throughout the show. Truly, understanding why Dandelion is a must watch will give fans a deeper look into the creator's roots.
