A very special talk event for the upcoming TV anime Magic Knight Rayearth, which is based on the legendary original work by CLAMP, was held during AnimeJapan 2026 at Tokyo Big Sight on March 28th. The atmosphere was absolutely electric as Ayane Sakura, Rumi Okubo, and Rie Takahashi took the stage to greet a massive crowd of eager fans. At the start of the event, a teaser PV was shown to the audience, revealing the latest production information. The highlight of the video was definitely the cast announcement: Ayane Sakura will be voicing Hikaru Shido, Rumi Okubo takes on Umi Ryusaki, and Rie Takahashi will play Fuu Hououji. Ayane Sakura, who has been a massive fan of CLAMP’s works for a long time, shared that she found out about her role as Hikaru through a call from her manager. Her manager actually warned her to check if people were around before telling her the news, because he knew she would scream—and she definitely did! Meanwhile, Rumi Okubo, who also grew up as an otaku loving CLAMP, confessed that Umi has always been her absolute favourite character. When she got the news, she was so moved that she just silently cried tears of joy.

Rie Takahashi mentioned that while she knew about the series, she hadn't read the original manga before the audition. However, knowing how much her senior colleague Okubo loved the work, she felt a lot of pressure and enthusiasm to do her best. When she won the role of Fuu, the first thing she thought of was Okubo's happy face. She said she is really glad that the three of them can work on the dubbing together as a team.

The emotional energy on stage reached its peak when a message from CLAMP and newly drawn illustrations were suddenly revealed. This wasn't in the original script, so the actresses were totally caught off guard. Magic Knight Rayearth originally ran in Nakayoshi from 1993 to 1995, telling the story of three middle school girls summoned to the world of Cephiro. This new animation project is part of the 30th-anniversary celebrations. Fans are already discussing Magic Knight Rayearth and how it will be updated for a modern audience when it begins broadcasting this October on TV Asahi's national network.
