Red River Manga to Receive TV Anime Adaptation
The classic historical fantasy manga Red River by Chie Shinohara is set to be adapted into a TV anime premiering this summer. This announcement comes with the release of a teaser visual, unveiling key staff members along with a new illustration by the original creator.
First serialized from 1995 to 2002 in Shogakukan’s Shojo Comic, the manga, titled Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori in Japan, has achieved significant success with over 20 million copies in circulation, including digital editions. Notably, it secured the prestigious 46th Shogakukan Manga Award in the shojo category and was later transformed into a Takarazuka Revue stage production in 2018. The English license for the series is held by VIZ Media.

Yuri, a teenager from the 21st century, finds herself transported to ancient Anatolia as part of a diabolical scheme by Nakia, the malevolent Queen of the Hittites. It is only through the intervention of Nakia’s stepson, Prince Kail, that Yuri is saved from the Queen’s deadly intentions. Consequently, the people of Anatolia view Yuri as the embodiment of the great war goddess, Ishtar.
This upcoming TV adaptation marks the first time that one of Shinohara’s works will be brought to television screens. Fans are eagerly anticipating further revelations, including details about the cast and the official premiere date.
