The much-awaited talk event for the upcoming TV anime Witch Hat Atelier, which is based on the beautiful original work by Shirahama Ou, finally took place today, March 28th. This "Special Stage Right Before the Broadcast" was a major highlight at AnimeJapan 2026, held at the massive Tokyo Big Sight in Tokyo. Fans gathered in large numbers to see the stars of the show. Rena Motomura, who is voicing the lead character Coco, was present along with Natsuki Hanae, the voice of Key Free, and the project's director, Ayumu Watanabe. It was a very lively session where they shared several behind-the-scenes stories about the production.

The chemistry between the cast members was quite evident on stage, making everyone even more excited for the Witch Hat Atelier premiere.

Three People Appear Wearing Pointy Hats

To match the whimsical theme of the series, all three guests appeared on stage wearing iconic pointy hats. This small touch really set the mood for the event. They discussed how the world of Witch Hat Atelier is all about the wonder of magic and the hard work required to master it. Director Ayumu Watanabe mentioned that they are working very hard to bring the intricate art style of the manga to life in the animation. The Real Teacher-Student Relationship

One of the most interesting parts of the talk was when Natsuki Hanae and Rena Motomura spoke about their dynamic. In the anime, Key Free is the teacher and Coco is the student. Interestingly, they mentioned that a similar vibe exists in real life during their recording sessions. Hanae, being a veteran in the industry, often guides Motomura, which helps in making their on-screen relationship feel very authentic. The audience was quite touched to hear how this "guided casting" is actually helping the performance.
