Takako Shimura Launches New Manga Adaptation of "Danchi no Futari" in JOUR Magazine
There is some really great news for manga fans today. The very talented Takako Shimura has finally started her new project, which is a comic adaptation of Chiya Fujino's famous novel, "Danchi no Futari". This brand-new series has officially made its debut in the May issue of JOUR (published by Futabasha), which hit the stands today, April 2nd. It is quite a big deal because Shimura is known for her very sensitive and beautiful storytelling, so seeing her take on Fujino's work is quite exciting for everyone.

A Nostalgic Look at Friendship and Daily Life
The story of "Danchi no Futari" (or "Two People in the Housing Complex") is set in an old housing complex that still feels like the Showa era. It follows two childhood friends who are now in their fifties. First, we have Noechi (also known as Noechi), who works as a part-time university lecturer. Then there is Natsuko (known as Nacchan), a struggling illustrator living in her childhood home. They spend their days finding small bits of happiness, like having dinner together or selling old stuff on flea market apps. This is exactly why Danchi no Futari is a must watch, as it captures the soul of ordinary life so perfectly.
Actually, this story recently got a lot of attention in 2024 when it was turned into a live-action drama on NHK BS and NHK BS Premium 4K. It starred Kyoko Koizumi and Satomi Kobayashi, and people really loved their chemistry. It is interesting to see how Shimura will bring her own unique style to this narrative. This actually marks the first time Shimura is adapting a novel by Fujino since "Route 225", which was serialized back in 2007-2008 in Monthly Shonen Sirius. So, after almost 20 years, this legendary duo has teamed up again!
