The TV anime version of the much-talked-about historical manga ``Tentaku no Jādugal', which has won numerous manga awards, is currently being broadcast on the ``IMAnimation'' slot of TV Asahi's 24 network stations nationwide, as well as on BS Asahi and other stations. Based on the original manga by Tomato Soup (serialized in Akita Shoten's ``Souffle''), the story is set in 13th century Mongolia and tells the story of Sitara, a former slave girl who shakes up the empire.
In this film, which depicts people surviving in turbulent times, we conducted an email interview with Noriko Kuwashima, who plays Fatima, who is deeply in love with Sitara. We asked her to talk about her impressions upon reading the original work, the charm of the character Fatima, and the bond she has with Sitara that transcends blood ties.
◆“Love” for Fatima “to strengthen Sitara”
--Please tell us your impressions when you read the original work of ``Tentacle Jaadugar''.
Noriko Kuwashima(hereinafter referred to as Kuwajima) Although the illustrations are somewhat nostalgic and cute, like something I read engrossed in when I was a child, the core of the work is based on a real woman and depicts the dark side of being at the mercy of fate, and I was drawn into this gap.
◆ “The kind of woman I want to be” Noriko Kuwashima felt the charm of Fatima
--What do you think about the relationship between Fatima and Sitara? Please tell us if you have any feelings about the bond between the two of you that goes beyond blood ties.
KuwajimaFatima has a son but no daughter. As he met Sitara, he grew to like her and thought of her as his real daughter. Sitara also felt that, and we were thinking about each other.
--This work depicts various forms of ``motherhood'' and ``the way a family should be.'' Was there anything you felt or were made to think about through your role as Fatima?
KuwajimaEven if we are not related by blood, we can still cherish each other. Despite the difficulties of living as a woman in this era, I think it is amazing that women can see the truth and use their knowledge to be loving like Fatima. This is the kind of woman I want to be.
