"Baseball Manga Studies: History and Expression"

The book ``Introduction to Baseball Manga Studies - Its History and Expression'' by baseball manga critic Yoshihisa Tsukui was released by Shogakukan today, April 17th.

Japan's "baseball manga" culture boasts a unique depth and breadth unparalleled anywhere else in the world. This book is a new approach to academic systematization, and explains the history and expression of baseball manga. The book contains plenty of panels from two completed baseball manga, ``MAJOR'' by Takuya Mitsuda, and ``Last Inning'' by Yutaka Nakahara, based on the original work by Ryu Kamio. It is divided into four parts: Chapter 1 provides an overview and organization of the flow of the genre from its rise to the 20th century, Chapter 2 collects and evaluates works from the beginning of the 21st century, Chapter 3 analyzes and deconstructs the expressions of games and plays unique to baseball manga, and Chapter 4 classifies and defines the structure of the story and the flow of the story by point. Also included at the end of the book is the world's most detailed chronology of baseball manga works [tentative version]. You can also enjoy columns that look back at the history of baseball manga from the perspective of "women's baseball," "parody," and "pseudo ball games." The obi also received a recommendation comment from Tetsuya Chiba, who is also known for the baseball manga ``Shonen Giants''.
