Hyakuemu Blu-ray and DVD Release Details Announced

Fans of intense sports drama have a lot to look forward to as the Blu-ray and DVD release for the theatrical animation Hyakuemu has finally been confirmed. Based on the powerful original manga by Uotoyo, the home video version is scheduled to hit the shelves on May 27th. This announcement has already created quite a buzz, especially since hyakuemu: why this high-stakes track and field series is a must read and watch phenomenon continues to be a topic of discussion among anime enthusiasts. Along with the release date, we also got some special comments from the lead stars Tori Matsuzaka and Shota Sometani, who shared their experiences working on this unique project.

The Blu-ray digipak case for the Hyakuemu movie is a real treat for collectors. It features a special box illustrated by Uotoyo himself, adding that authentic manga touch to the physical edition. The digipak design is handled by Keisuke Kojima, who served as both the character designer and the chief animation director for the film. His artwork beautifully captures a pivotal moment for the characters Togashi, Komiya, Zaitsu, Kaito, Kabagi, and Morikawa as they make their start as working adults. It's a nice nod to the emotional journey these runners go through.

Exclusive Bonus Features and Contents

One of the biggest highlights of this release is that both the Blu-ray and DVD will include a "retake version" of the film. This version has been brushed up to ensure the animation looks even better than it did during the theatrical run. For those who love deep dives into the production process, the Blu-ray version is packed with extras:

  • Visual Booklet: A 52-page booklet featuring a detailed dialogue between director Kenji Iwaisawa and character designer Kojima.
  • Sticker Set: A title logo sticker set specifically designed for the 5-volume version of the original manga.
  • Video Bonuses: Includes a comprehensive making-of documentary and footage from the official stage greetings.
  • Audio Commentary: A massive 106-minute audio commentary featuring six key staff members, including director Iwaisawa, discussing every section of the film's creation.

The DVD version isn't far behind either, as it comes with two types of title logo stickers and a collection of various preview videos used during the film's promotion. Additionally, fans who pre-order early can avail themselves of various corporate and reservation benefits.

Theatrical Benefits and Soundtrack News

For those still lucky enough to catch the film in theaters, there's more good news. The newly drawn visual postcards, which were previously given out as admission gifts, are being reprinted. These will be distributed at three major theaters in Tokyo: TOHO Cinemas Chante, kino cinéma Shinjuku (starting today, February 27th), and Meguro Cinema (on March 9th, 11th, 13th, and 14th). There are 7 different types available, and they are given out randomly until supplies last, so you better hurry if you want to grab your favourite character.

Music lovers haven't been forgotten either. A 12-inch analog record of the Hyakuemu soundtrack will also release on May 27th. This vinyl features 13 carefully selected tracks from the original soundtrack CD that came out last September. These songs have been newly mastered specifically for the analog format, promising a very high-quality listening experience. It really goes to show hyakuemu: why this high-stakes track and field series is a must read and watch phenomenon extends even to its technical and musical production values.

The project really highlights the collaboration between Uotoyo, Akira Kawashima, and Kenji Iwaisawa. Their combined vision has resulted in a theatrical animation that truly focuses on expressions and imagery that only the medium of anime can provide. It’s a must-have for any collector who appreciated the raw energy of the manga.
