First 4K Screening of "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" - Summer 2026

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the release of Mamoru Hosoda's The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, the first 4K revival screening will be held nationwide from summer 2026.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, based on the novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui, is a story depicting the youth and growth of Makoto Konno, a high school girl who has acquired the ability to “time leap” to the past. When it was released in July 2006, screenings started at just six theaters, but spread by word of mouth, eventually reaching over 100 theaters in total. It also had a long run of about 40 weeks, and won numerous awards, including one at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. At the revival screening, original admission benefits will also be distributed. Details will be announced at a later date.

In addition, director Hosoda's largest exhibition to date, ``Mamoru Hosoda's Origin/Exhibition,'' will be held at CREATIVE MUSEUM TOKYO from June 18th. It will tour Osaka from October 28th, and Fukuoka from January 22nd, 2027.
