The Inspiration Behind the New Arc
A special program for the anime series 'Two People Suck Up Behind the Supermarket' will be broadcast exclusively for free from 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2026, and plenty of behind-the-scenes stories about the role creation and dubbing were told.
The manga 'Two people smoking tar behind the supermarket' has been serialized on the original author/land owner's Twitter (currently X) since March 9, 2022, and the first episode has received a total of 280,000 likes, becoming a big topic and currently being serialized in the monthly magazine 'Big Gangan' (published by Square Enix).
Character Development
Sasaki, a tired, middle-aged man, is running along the company road. His secret comforts are his favorite cigarettes and the smiling customer service of Mr. Yamada, a female clerk at his favorite supermarket. One night, tired from work, he heads to the supermarket to soothe himself, but Mr. Yamada is not there, and there is no place to smoke these days... A woman named Tayama, who was wearing a somewhat unusual outfit, called out to the depressed Sasaki and said, 'You can smoke here.'
Sasaki and Tayama have a casual conversation in a smoking area at the back of a supermarket.
Behind-the-Scenes Stories
In the program, they first talked about their impressions when they read the original work. Sato said, 'When I finished reading the first episode, I was like, 'What's going to happen?' 'I was drawn in more and more. Now I can't wait to see if the latest issue comes out soon. I'm already a fan!' he said enthusiastically.
In the following character introduction, Sato commented about the character Sasaki, saying, 'I've never played a role that is so close to my actual age, so I played the role with a sense of relatability.'
