Kevin Penkin Returns to Score Made in Abyss Trilogy
The Made in Abyss Film Concert unveiled the teaser trailer for Made in Abyss: Mezameru Shinpi (Made in Abyss: Awakening Mystery), the initial film in the upcoming Made in Abyss trilogy. The teaser not only revealed the fall 2026 release date for the first film but also introduced additional staff for the project.
The newly disclosed staff includes:

Furthermore, Masayuki Kojima (Black Bullet, Tibetan Dog) is set to direct the anime at Kinema Citrus, while Hideyuki Kurata (Samurai Flamenco, The World God Only Knows) will handle the scripts. Kazuchika Kise (Ghost in the Shell: Arise Alternative Architecture, xxxHOLiC) and Yuka Kuroda (Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun) return as character designers.
The returning cast members for the movie include:

- Miyu Tomita as Riko
- Shiori Izawa as Nanachi
- Misaki Kuno as Faputa
Kadokawa previously announced a sequel to Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun anime in January 2023. The original Made in Abyss anime series debuted in Japan in July 2017 and was later released on Blu-ray Disc by Sentai Filmworks.
Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul film premiered in Japan in January 2020 and performed well in its opening weekend. The movie received 4DX and MX4D screenings and was screened in the U.S. and Canada by Sentai Filmworks in August 2020.
