Mobile Police Patlabor 2026, a new one-shot of Mobile Police Patlabor by Masami Yuuki, was published in Weekly Big Comic Spirits No. 25 (Shogakukan), released today, May 18th.
The Inspiration Behind the New Arc
Mobile Police Patlabor is a work created in 1988 by the unit HEADGEAR, which includes Yuuki, Yutaka Izubuchi, Kazunori Ito, Akemi Takada, and Mamoru Oshii. At the same time as the initial OVA was announced, a manga version by Yuuki was serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday (Shogakukan). The manga version is set in the near future between 1998 and 2002, when general-purpose humanoid working machines, labors, became widespread, and the new one-shot is a follow-up story based on the same work, set in 2026. Kiichi Goto and others appear in the work.

New Anime and Character Designs
The magazine features a project in which director Izubuchi explains the new anime Mobile Police Patlabor EZY. Rough drawings of Yuki's character designs for the main characters, including Towa Kuga, have also been released. Also included in the appendix is a sticker using the frames from the manga version.
