The Global Release
"Grave of the Fireflies" will begin exclusive distribution on Netflix on September 16, 2024 in more than 190 countries and regions excluding Japan. In the first week of distribution, it ranked 7th in Netflix's weekly global top 10 (movies/non-English category). In 2025, it will become the first Studio Ghibli work to be distributed on Netflix in Japan, with subtitles available in 33 languages and dubbing available in 10 languages. The audio guide, which provides audio explanations of the characters' movements, facial expressions, and scene changes, was provided by Shohiro Yasuda (SUPER EIGHT) for the Japanese version and by Patrick Harlan (Pak'n Makkun) for the English version.
Support for School Screenings
This is the second distribution in Japan following last year, and a review workshop for children was held on July 11th with the theme of "Seeing, Feeling, Thinking, and Expressing." On note, if you post an article with the hashtags ``#Grave of the Fireflies'' and ``#Netflix review'' between the 15th and August 31st, 5 people will be entered into a lottery to win Netflix goods and ``Isao Takahata and Grave of the Fireflies - Understanding the ``Phantom Screenplay'' and ``7 Concept Notes.''
We will also be working to support screenings of Grave of the Fireflies at schools. Schools that apply using the application form and receive permission from Shinchosha will be provided with a code for free viewing on Netflix.
