The Rebirth of a Classic
Theatrical version of the anime "AKIRA" will be rebroadcast on terrestrial TV. The broadcast will be broadcast on E-Tele from 14:00 on July 18, 2026. X has received many positive comments.
"AKIRA" is a theatrical animation released in 1988, directed and written by the original author Katsuhiro Otomo himself, and produced by Tokyo Movie Shinsha (currently TMS Entertainment). Set in Neo-Tokyo in 2019, it is known as a monumental science fiction anime that depicts a fierce battle between juvenile delinquents, the military, and guerrillas over the mysterious being "Akira" with overwhelming art and music.
Behind the Scenes
The production period was 3 years, and the total production cost was 1 billion yen. Approximately 150,000 cels were created by 1,300 staff members. It took a lot of time and effort to create this movie, which was unimaginable for normal animation at the time.
This work, which was previously broadcast on terrestrial TV on E-Tele from 10pm on January 3, 2026, will be rebroadcast on E-Tele at 2pm on July 18th.

■Synopsis
In July 1988, a new type of bomb was used in the Kanto region, starting World War III.
31 years later - 2019 Neo Tokyo, the megalopolis built on Tokyo Bay, is regaining its former prosperity with the Olympics set to be held the following year. Kaneda, the leader of a group of healthy juvenile delinquents, rides a motorcycle in this devastated city and repeatedly rides out of control and fights. One night, while out on a rampage, his friend Tetsuo encounters a boy who is a strange experimental subject and falls down and gets injured. In front of a stunned Kaneda and his friends, they are taken away to a military research institute. Kaneda attempts to infiltrate the research institute to rescue Tetsuo. However, there he sees a crazy Tetsuo who has awakened to a new "power" due to excessive human experimentation. Meanwhile, in a special baby room within the research institute, a young experimental subject predicts the awakening of "Top Secret = Akira." In order to get closer to the mystery of his power, Tetsuo begins approaching "Akira" who sleeps deep underground.
